about SIMON

My name is Simon (he/him), and I'm a Seattle-based actor working in both theatre and film. My work is majorly rooted in storytelling for social change, with specific work in transgender and feminist literature.

hi there!

I recently received one Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance, paired with a Bachelor of Arts in General Theatre Studies, and a minor in Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies from Central Washington University. Under these degrees, I have more specifically studied Viewpoints, Laban, and Suzuki, with academic recognitions in physical theatre. These degrees have also offered me experience in technical theatre; Specifically, in costuming, scenic painting, prop construction, and dramaturgy.

A few of my most notable roles include Xavier (Understudy) in I'll Be Your Superhero (Seattle Children's Theatre), Iggy in Drowned Cats (Blue Hour Theatre), and Somebody in Everybody (Central Theatre Ensemble).

Film Experience

From backyard IMovies to indie films, I was fortunate enough to find a love for the screen at a very early age.

I auditioned for my first commercial at twelve and have been drawn to it ever since. I have experience with commercials and indie films, primarily, but I am more than open to whatever your project may be!

Furthermore, I've performed stage combat for the screen and gotten academic credit for such.

STAGED COMBAT

I've been performing staged combat for going on nine years now. From A Midsummer Night's Dream to Lightsaber choreography, my experience has become quite diverse! I have academic credits in both unarmed and armed staged combat, as well as performance experience in either.

Actively, I'm actually enrolled in a staged combat class for Lightsaber choreography! I know, what a nerd, right?

In addition to the 'pretend fighting', I also practice boxing at my local boxing gym in my free time.

MUSICAL EXPERIENCE

Dance has always been a big passion of mine! Whether that be professionally or unprofessionally, I've always been drawn to it. I've been practicing Jazz dance for nine years now, and dabbled in smaller styles, such as Eighteenth-Century Ballroom and Jewish Folk Dance.

My instrument of choice is string instruments, with intermediate experience playing both the guitar and ukulele, and beginner experience playing the lyre (such a beautiful instrument!).

I've been singing for going on nine years now, recreationally and professionally. I have academic credits in musical performance as well.

dramaturgy

Another artistic passion of mine is the study of both Jewish comedy and Yiddish Theatre. (And a small—but special—developing skill of mine is Yiddish folk dance!)

The majority of my dramaturgical research is based in mid-nineteenth century European Yiddish theatre, which all majorly took place inside concentration camps. I've done quite a bit of dramaturgical work for this time period, as well as academic dramaturgy for the play Indecent, written by Paula Vogel.

I've also done dramaturgical work for shadow-casts of The Rocky Horror Picture Show (yes, the movie!), as well as many other activists' shows, such as Continuity by Bess Wohl.

Check out some of my dramaturgical work below!
